Unless your debian script 'sensible-browser' uses it. Perhaps just
tell gnome to use the real thing directly instead would help (i.e.
gnome-moz-remote).
sensible-browser SHOULD use it. If set correctly.
Otherwise for debian I recommend:
update-alternatives --config x-www-browser
