[Evolution] Evo 1.44: Not expunging vfolders correctly

MDK 9.1+, fresh installation, upgrade via RedCarpet to the most current
state (of course, including all the Evo stuff)

Love 1.44 - but having a slight prob with my "Unread Mail" vfolder -
when I've read through messages - or marked them as read, and then
"expunge" the folder, I still get residual messages marked as read, but
still lingering there...

It's not horribly bad, but I hate having to take the extra step of
clicking "view -> hide read messages" - and ain't had to deal with this
particular weirdness before...

Any suggestions/hints/curses/flames?
