Glad you got your contacts back. :)

One note I forgot in my previous post: Before backing up your
~/evolution/ directory, be sure to close Evolution and --force-shutdown
as well (or simply logout, useful for cron jobs backing up). Otherwise
the data may not be synced to disk, which can lead to data corruption or
at least not backing up the recent changes.
