Re: [Evolution] Syncing laptop/desktop email using unison, files to sync?

if i right click on a folder, and change storage mode from mbox to
maildir, will it remove the mbox file or leave it?

Have not OK'd the sync yet (paranoia), though I have backed up both
evolution folders, I am presented with a list of files to sync including
these:

mbox.ev.summary mbox.ibex.index, mbox.ibex.index.data

in each dirextory on both machines.

Should these be synced? Should they even be there?

Yep, they should be there. These files are indexes (see local mail
folders, right click a folder, "Properties", [x] Index body contents).

You can safely delete them (backups don't need them for example) and
unless you disabled indexing they will be recreated on next startup.

That also means: If you do not sync them as well, Evolution startup
after sync will take some time [1] as they are recreated (just not
matching the mail folders has the same recreation effect as deleting
them).

[1] Depending on the mail count and your machine it may be worth
fetching a coffee while waiting for the indexes being created...

Cool, that's what I wanted to know. I am happier with them being
recreated anyway. Thank you, I'll be doing the sync soon then (anothe
backup first though).

Cheers

OK, a cautious 'looks good'. Took quite a while. And except for a
quite a few of these:

(evolution:1675): camel-WARNING **: Cannot convert 'DEFAULT_CHARSET' to
'UTF-8', message index may be corrupt

(evolution:1676): widgets-WARNING **: Could not open converter for
'X-UNKNOWN' to 'UTF-8' charset

which i don't believe is Unison's or evo's fault, went very well.

So I'm a happy bunny. A very happy bunny. :D

Next project, get the relevant laptop networking daemons working only
when connected to a LAN, so I'll go back to lurking for a while.

Thanks all.
