I may be moving from Evolution 1.2 under Solaris (on sparc) to Evolution
under Linux (on AMD). I want to preserve my mail and settings. What's
the best way to do this? For example, is it safe just to copy my
evolution directory, or do I need to do something else?
Yep, just copying ~/evolution is sufficient for (almost) everything.
Be sure to preserve the file rights (tarball comes in handy) and change
UID and GID for the new account recursively. As you are using Solaris, I
assume you know, how to do this. ;-)
However, there may be some more directories to be copied. But you should
be able to adjust them, when having a quick look at the Settings (stuff
like shortcuts, IIRC).
~/.camel_cert
If you are using SSL, your certificates are in here.
~/.gnome
There are some minor settings in there IIRC. The file gnome-spell has
some info, at least.
GConf
As you are using 1.2.4, there should be no need for GConf.
There are potential incompatibilities from different evolution versions,
different OS's, and different chips.
As long as you stick to the 1.2.x versions, there should be no problem.
Downgrading to 1.0.x might be a problem. Don't know, though.
AFAIK chips and OS are no issue, even languages, as Unicode is used.
