Well, I tried in 1.3.3 with the mail you sent.  I opened the mail in its
own window, resized the window, closed the window, and opened the window
again.  When I opened it, it was the size to which I had resized it
earlier.  Maybe it's a window manager issue, or maybe it works better in
1.3.3 than in earlier versions.  Which window manager are you using, and
which version of Evolution are you running? I'm using metacity, FWIW.
