[Evolution] spelcheck in evolution is not working properly

Hiya all,
I've just discovered that spellcheck in evolution is not working
properly.
Everything is fine in toiols>settings>Composer Preferences>Spellcheck
but when I do ctr+shift+L Evolution output is "no misspelled word found"
I'm running ppc Debian unstable Evolution 1.2.4
Thank you for any ideas/pointers.
