configure went fine.
The problem came up during make

./configure --prefix=/opt/gnome_cvs/ --with-db3-includes=/opt/db3/include/ --with-db3-libs=/opt/db3/lib/ 
--enable-nss=no 

and then make

db3 is installed in /opt/db3

libglib2.0-dev is also installed.
libglib2.0-dev 2.2.1-3        Development files for the GLib library

As suggested by Ross, I also did export SED=sed (well ! ... was a nice try !)

What else can I try.
I dont want to give this thing up. I really want to get this thing compiled & running
