Make sure you're not running gconfd-1 I think.

Try also running
gconftool-2 --spawn
 or --ping, etc.

And looking up gconfd issues on the net

Have I lost all my e-mail messages or can I recover them?
Evolution starts now with that error and the Evolution Setup Assistant.
