      * Under (start), Configuration, Gnome, Advanced, Preferred

      * In the same window, set the "custom web browser" option to

        are there)
      * the command "gconftool -g
        /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/unknown/command" reports "galeon
%s" (when the first bullet point above is in effect) or
gnome-moz-remote --newwin "%s" when the second bullet is in
        effect.
All comments, thoughts and advice appreciated and welcome.

Leon, have you tried to edit the ~/home/yournamehere/.gnome/Gnome file?
It appears as though you haven't tried this trick yet - example:

[URL Handlers]
default-show=galeon "%s"
info-show=nautilus --no-desktop "%s"
man-show=nautilus --no-desktop "%s"
ghelp-show=nautilus --no-desktop "%s"

It's a help to have galeon setup in gconf-editor - in as many places as
you can find it...but this text file seems to be that "magic" config
file that will make your life happy again...

Partial success with this. It seemed to work for the Sent folder, but

the real mail is stored. Turns out those files all have 0 length. It
looks like all of it is gone after all (short of the massive mbox

For the most part, all of the mbox folders have the same date and time,

I guess that I'd ask, is there anything else that I could have done

All the mentioned steps apply to the Gnome 2.x desktop, so do not forget
them. ;)

FYI: Evolution 1.2.x is still a Gnome 1.4 app, despite the fact that MDK
9.1 ships with a Gnome 2.2 desktop. Thus, to customize the default
browser for Evo, you will need the Gnome 1.x way.

Stephens notes are right -- the above just to clarify the differences.
For more infos you can search the archives for 'mozilla-remote.sh' and

We dont read rtf natively, so something else is doing the html
translation (or sending it as text that we translate to html). i.e.
outlook or exchange.

I suggest creating a bug on bugzilla.ximian.com and attaching an example
message - even if it just gets closed with 'not our problem' :)

Hi am relatively new to evolution, but I like it a lot so far. I could
not find this topic in the archives nor FAQ.

I am working in an organization that is almost entirely Windoze based.
Most people are using Outlook in a native windoze 2000 environment.

I am running RH8.0, now with Evolution 1.4 obtained with red-carpet. I
use Evolution to connect to the exchange server using imap. I also have
vmware running win2k which I use mostly for running Outlook Calendar (I
know I should try Ximian connector ... one day I will). I often have
both outlook (inside vmware) running simultaneously with Evolution
running natively. Both are pointed at the same set of email on the
exchange server.

Anyway, most people use the default settings in Outlook to send messages
in rich text format (RTF).

One thing that has been annoying me is that the message upon receipt has
all of the paragraphs chopped up into individual lines each about 70
chars long. This process does not seem handle long url's well.
Usually, long urls get mangled, and I cannot use the message to hop to
the url directly.

I have tested this and it happens even if I create the message in
outlook (in vmware) and save it to my drafts folder, and then view it
from evolution. That is the message is never really "sent", only saved.

I would have thought there would be some form of RTF to HTML mapping
that would allow the message to be handled "nicely" so that line breaks
would not be required.

As far as I can tell there is no control for how to handle received
messages. Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing?

1 - gtkHTML doesn't use the same monospace font that other gnome apps
use. gnome-font-properties shows whatever font rendered properly (and
I've tried many), but when viewing or editing plain-text, it looks like
the attachment. Any ideas?

Check the mail font settings (settings->mail preferences).

It might be set to override and to some odd old font.

Subject: [Evolution] Printing contact list from Evolution 1.4

I am having a problem with printing the contact list from Evolution 1.4
The printed text is very small print (6 or 7 font ??) and the output has
a raw appearance where the addresses are a single run-along sentence
with a [] (actually a small square box) showing where the carriage
returns should be. The contact list is almost 400 names and when
printed with Evolution 1.2.4 using a readable font and nice layout fills
up 38 pages. Under Evolution 1.4 the same contact list only fills 18
pages but needs magnifying glasses to be read.

This is with Evolution 1.4 on SuSE 8.2, using KDE but the same problem
exists when I try printing the contact list from a Gnome session.
Emails seem to print fine with the requested 11 font.

To print the contact list I "select all" then file/print. The preview
will only show one page (where there should be 18 pages to view) and the
top of the preview has "No visible output was created." showing in LARGE
BOLD RED lettering. BTW if I tty and only print a single contact the
preview stills shows the first full page of the contact list with the
first 18 contacts and the red letter warning, not the single selected
contact. If I ignore the red letter warning the contact list will be
printed in its entirety with the small raw printing.

Any ideas how to fix this??

BTW is it also possible to get the Evolution/Gnome printing system to
use Letter paper size as default and change the margins? GEdit 2.201
and Mozilla 1.4, which I assume are gnome2 apps, seem to work fine.

Thanks for any help.

The mail account in question has about ~360MB of mail in it, mostly
under

Evolution takes around 60seconds from launch to become usable. Kmail
takes
~5-10seconds on the same account, server, etc.

Well, if you're doing things like vFoldering on any of the folders,
evolution might necessarily be having to do more work right off the bat,
e.g. checking all folders for new messages and fetching their headers.
In that case the direct comparison wouldn't be valid.

We also get headers using a more complex query, because we use header
fields not available in the imap envelope query to do vFoldering on
mailing lists. uw-imapd apparently bogs down with this, i think.

You could try running evolution with CAMEL_VERBOSE_DEBUG set to 1 in the
environment, that will dump the imap traffic, and might show up
something that doesn't look right ...

But bluntly, we know evolution's imap implementation is a pig, and hope
to replace it for 1.6 (but its a big task, particularly to distill the
features, and all of the server bugs we're working around in the current
code). I also want to add some options, like if you don't care about
vfoldering on mailing list headers, you can tell it to use more
efficient imap queries to improve startup time.

I will add that there are a few other files in the /mail/ directory due
to my usage of
OpenWebMail as my prmary mail client at this time. Those files are
.db's, etc. (don't
imagine they are a problem, but including their existence for
completeness)

Shouldn't be unless its trying to list them as folders.

Changed to the compat-db3 rpm and I still have the same problem.
Evolution will not create a new addressbook and cannot open the

But thanks for the info, I'll file that for future reference.

Ooh. I didn't even notice that the font preferences were back. Very

It might be set to override and to some odd old font.

Actually, if I tell it to override and specify the exact same font set

Oh well. That's MUCH better. It was getting hard to read my email.

Thanks for the reply on this. It looks like I'm going to hold off until
1.6 then...dammit!
I've been following Evo since before release and I was hoping that 1.4 was
the
animal that was going to set me free!

I'm not doing vFolders or such, just plain IMAP access to my mail. I may
look at
breaking out the archives into a different account or unsubscribing, etc.

Additionally, I'm in a slack time for the next two weeks and if I can
