[Evolution] non-root evolution install?

Hi there -

I'm was wondering if anybody ever tried to install evolution as a normal
user locally in his/her home directory. Due to an unfortunate
administrative situation, it is the only way for me to upgrade from
1.0.8. The naive approach of downloading the various rpms, unpacking
them locally with cpio and then adding the paths in my bashrc left me
with a variety of funny error messages. So I would like to ask if
anybody knows a more systematic approach?
