You might be able to bypass your problems with VFolders by using the
technique described in the note I sent Jul 4, 11:42 am PDT, subject:
Tip: Using vfolders for boolean searches.

This gives a method of basing vfolders on other vfolders that emulates
boolean AND, OR, AND-NOT operations.  It is clumsy to set up, but
provides most of the flexibility of expressions without having to learn
the syntax.

I would also like to see examples of using expressions in Evolution.
