Re: [Evolution] Unusual Text Editing Behavior

Wonderful! I expected it must be something like that. Thanks for the
response.

I'm pretty sure that what you are seeing is just a bug that has been
found and fixed in gtkhtml in CVS and will be included in the next

This is something that has been bothering me almost to the point of my
considering dropping Evolution as my email client, despite the fact that
I need it to access an Exchange server.

Evolution's email component is certainly intended to have advanced text
editing functionality, but there's one aspect of the text editor that is
such a rookie mistake when it comes to text editing that I have to
assume that I must have something misconfigured in my own environment.
This oddity is the blinking cursor. If you take a look at at any given
text editing environment (command line, word processor, etc.), you'll
notice that the cursor, when not moving, blinks. However when it's
moving, the blinking stops. The obvious reason for this is that if the
cursor is blinking while it's moving, then for that half second or so
when the cursor is not visible, you have no idea where it is. That's ok,
when the cursor isn't moving because you know still know where the
cursor will return, but it's BEYOND MADDENING when trying to move your
cursor around text for the purpose of editing. I'm constantly over or
under shooting where I'm trying to place the cursor.

I happen to be a pretty poor typist so I have to diligently proofread
every email I send in the business environment. That means that I use
ctrl-left and ctrl-right a ton to move the cursor around my text. The
cursor disappearing while I'm doing this has just about driven me over
the edge into insanity.

Please, PLEASE, someone tell me I have a setting wrong somewhere and
that I can change to fix this. Other this this issue, I absolutely love
Evolution but I'm almost at my tolerance limit.

Thanks!
