If the other software is so widespread that enough users complain, I'd
guess this should not be seen too narrowly. But I agree that it's a bad
thing to do, in principle.

While on the topic, why doesn't my threaded preference stick in
Evolution?  It sticks in one of my vfolders, but none of the others.

Never had problems with that.
