Re: [Evolution] Help: POP Mail fetches all headers from mailserver each time.

but 1.0.8 does basically the same thing anyway, generates an md5 of the
headers.

the only practical solution if you have such a braindead server is to
not use 'keep on server'.

Correct, I guess this is unfortunately only useful when having one
computer to check your mail. Sometimes it is nicer to keep the mails
on the server. Going back to Evolution 1.0.8 might be not a bad idea
for this situation.

Nope, we did that in 1.0.8 as well. Did you maybe switch to using "keep
mail on server"? If you uncheck that, it would only need to do that for
new messages.

This must be a new feature from 1.2.x on since everything
works fine when using version 1.0.8.

Evolution uses the md5sum of the headers to generate a UID for each
message for use locally. This is how we avoid downloading duplicates of
messages.

For non-sucky POP servers that support UIDs, we use those instead... but
your server doesn't support that extension.

Dear,

Since Evolution 1.2 it seems that retrieving mail (Send/Receive button)
fetches all headers on the mail server every time instead of only the
newer mails (as was the case with Evolution 1.0.8).

I've captured the data between Evolution and the mail server.

Any idea's why with every retrieval all the data is fetched again
and again, resulting in Meg's of data since my mail is kept on the
server. It almost has the same effect as a HOAX virus (data transfer
wise) :-)

Thanks,
Marc
