OpenOffice.org does have a mail merge feature, and can currently use as

difference between this and Evolution's contact format).
Hmmm ... those using LDAP for both will have no trouble with either.
LDAP rules ;)
I have just checked StarOfffice 7.0 (OpenOffice 1.1) and it supports
Evolution address books. Create data source of type address book with
sdbc:address:evolution. It worked out of the box. Very nice.
This does indeed apply to OOo 1.1 too.
However, looking at it from a system-wide point of view, Evo's address
book can only be used by Evo (and OOo/Star Office, of course), whilst an
LDAP address book can be used system-wide, network-wide or even
corporate-wide. And obviously Evo, Mozilla, OOo/Star Office, login
procedures, Samba - just name it - can use it as well.
Of course, that's true. However, setting up an LDAP server is more
complicated. Nevertheless, I will have a look at it when I have some
free time.
