You are correct, that Evolution is a mail client. But especially the
search bar really is useful, not to say essential to me on a daily
basis, once I got used to it.
The gray bar with the current folder and the mail counts seems to be
dropped in the mock-ups for the 2.0 UI.
Of cause the search is useful, but when I would like to search I could
use alt-s a. is it possible to exchange the icons with smaller ones?
to maybe get rid of some space if the widgets themselves aren't
hardcoded to take out that much space? Somebody gotta know.
The UI of the toolbar is not hardcoded. You can adjust it to your liking
to some extend. Check /usr/share/evolution/1.4/ui/ for the XML files.
I dunno, if you can replace the Icons by smaller ones. Maybe replacing
the images will help.
Defining your own icons AFAIK is only possible, when using Gnome stock
icons, which have the same size. When setting to an invalid stock icon,
the icon disappears. I don't know if this will reduce the height to the
minimum height used by the text, though.
