[Evolution] Reading system mail

Trying to get Evolution 1.0.8 to read my system mail w/o success. Evo
reads 3 pop accounts w/o problem. Trying not to have to use a second
email program to read system mail.

Here's what I'm doing. 
1) Tools / Mail Settings
        Add account: LocalMail
        Server Type: maildir-format mail directories
        Path:   ~/Mail/inbox

In the inbox there are probably 30 pieces of mail.

All mail in this box is formatted as msg.???, e.g., msg.1rJ, msg.4HG,
msg.8nI, etc.

Can Evo read this type of mail format or have I set it up incorrectly?
