Re: [Evolution] Evo 1.2 and Visor sync - USB

I am including the printout of several commands for my system, and the
steps that I have used to determine why the Visor will not connect.

A. SYSTEM DETAILS
B. STEPS ATTEMPTED
C. DETAIL INFORMATION BY LINUX DISTRIBUTION

1. SYSTEM DETAILS
Mandrake 9, 8.2
Red Hat 8.0
Evolution 1.0.8, 1.2
Dell Latitude C600 Laptop
Compaq Presario Desktop
Handspring Visor Pro USB

I have tried to connect my visor to two different computers, using MDK
8.2 on the desktop, and MDK 9, and RH 8 on the laptop. On the laptop, I
tried Evolution 1.0.8, & 1.2 in Red Hat, and 1.2 in Mandrake, and have
not been able to get the Visor to synchronize. MDK 8.2 and 9 and RH 8
have all the modules (i.e. visor and usb) needed for the Visor to
synchronize, but I cannot get it to synchronize.

In RH 8, neither the Pilot tools in RH nor Evolution will function, and
allow me to change settings. Several commands, lsmod & coldsync are
disabled in the Personal Desktop version of Red Hat.

B. STEPS ATTEMPTED
I have:
1. Changed permissions (verified permissions were correct)
2. dmesg
3. lsmod (when available)
4. cat /proc/devices
5. cat /proc/bus/usb/devices
6. pilot-xfer /dev/usb/ttyUSB1 â-list

C. DETAIL INFORMATION BY LINUX DISTRIBUTION
With RH 8, it

chmod 775 /dev/usb/ttyUSB0
chmod 775 /dev/usb/ttyUSB1
chmod 775 /dev/usb/tts/0
chmod 775 /dev/usb/tts/1

lsmod - does not work in RH 8

coldsync â not functioning in RH 8

In RH 8, to use pilot-xfer /dev/usb/ttyUSB1 âlist, I needed to make a
symbolic link. From dmesg, I saw that the Handspring was connected on
USB0 and USB1. The symbolic link for my system is:

# ln -s /dev/usb/ttyUSB1 /dev/pilot

# gpilotd
gpilotd-Message: gnome-pilot 0.1.65 starting...
