Hi All,
Just wanted to answer my own question for the sake of others in the same
situation.
Situation:
Mandrake 8.1 (running Xft), Evolution 1.0.8, VNC 3.3.3 (server) VNC
3.3.2 (client).
Symptom:
Titlebar/menu fonts appear as boxes, editing window did not appear at
all for new mail.
Hint:
When changing the fontpath in vncserver to /usr/X11R6/lib/fonts/misc/,
could get evolution running (albeit in an amazingly ugly fashion).
Solution:
Upgrade to vnc 3.3.4 on both client and server solved the editing window
not appearing.
Instead of looking at /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config-4.eg (which
specified a font path of unix/:7101), look at the actual configuration
file for X Windows /etc/X11/XF86Config, which specified unix/:7100 for
windows.
Ah, the value of 20/20 hind sight.
Hope this helps someone else.
-Ken
