[Evolution] mbox.ibex files

Evolution 1.0.8 on Debian. The program keeps huge mbox.ibex files for
foldes I have cleaned up.
E.g. I cleaned up old mail from a mailing list and the mbox.ibex file is
almost 50 Go!

restarting evolution doesn't solve the problem, even by ensuring it is
completely off (using killev).

- is this a known bug?
- can I safely delete this file (and the related mbox-ev.summary)?
- or how do I force the cleaning up?
