Re: [Evolution] ambiguity of "N" hotkey

We already know this, but creating a scripting API is not exactly
trivial. We just had a discussion about this the other day on
evolution-hackers ximian com

Go To -> Next Unread. I have to admit this falls into the annoying
category of, "evolution is 'broken' because I used to use some other
e-mail client that could do that therefore so should evolution."

Is there a way to add external plug-ins, applets, or scripts to
evolution, or drag menu items onto the toolbar? Does any such API
exist? That is the type of function that I would expect further down
the development road, but hopefully it would allow people to develop
their own plug-ins and applets for "Everybody's Pet My Old E-mail Client
Used to Do That Therefore Evolution Should Do That Too!" Naturally, you
would have to tell people to bug the plug-in developers and not ximian
if they have a problem with one of these custom apps. Then you could
set up a plugin registry like the one for GIMP where people could get at
these apps and stop complaining about it already.

I think trying to incorporate every feature that some other e-mail
client has is a very bad idea and would make evolution disgustingly
bloated. I think a better approach is to set up a plug-in API so people
can add all of the crazy functions they want and deal with the bloat but
it does not affect everybody else. This also keeps the code from
getting poluted with a bunch of extraneous crap. This idea has worked
very well for several applications like XMMS and GIMP. But hey, I
haven't even looked at the code yet, so maybe the API already exists and
I have no idea what I am talking about.

Ideally, I think "next folder" and "next messsage" should use different
hot keys.
