So, if I have db3 built with static-db enabled (and I do now) then Evo
will build with it statically linked, and therefore able to be
distributed?

:))))) There was a long discussion here. Ximian people claimed they
wanted to have addressbook format stable like rock. So they standardized
db3. And you do have to install db3 somewhere in your system in order to
compile evo. And probably compile it with _static_ db3 (unless you want
it to pick dynamic db4 libraries). I tried to convince them it's evil
and pain in the ... but it's them who rule Evo world:(
