I sent skye a message about this off-list. Perhaps I should have replied
to all.

I use Evolution to read and write Japanese email all the time. It works
very well. Here's all I do to get it working:

LANG=ja_JP.ujis
LC_ALL=ja_JP.ujis
LINGUAS="ja_JP.ujis"
LESSCHARSET=japanese

export LANG LC_ALL LINGUAS LESSCHARSET

kinput2 -canna&
evolution

It tries to, although i'm not sure how successful it is, it certainly
has japanese translations at least.

We certainly want it to work very well in all languages and locales and
this has been a goal from the beggining.
