[Evolution] IMAP before SMTP?

Hey All .. 

  I have my mail server set up for pop before SMTP, but it also works
for IMAP.  Since IMAP is a static connection, once the timeout is
through, I lose the ability to send out mail through the server.  I
tried to set it up as POP before SMTP, but I get an error that the I am
trying to do POP before SMTP from a non-POP source.

So, basically, my question is, is there anyway to get evolution to do an
IMAP re-auth without restarting??
