[Evolution] Evolution 1.0.1 as root works, not as normal user

Hi all,

I'm trying to get Evolution to run on my Linux Mandrake 8.1 system. 
I can't get it to work. Following is a description of the problem, 
thanks in advance for any help, tips or hints...

I used the following rpm packages from cooker (the development 
distro):

evolution-pilot-1.0.1-1mdk
evolution-1.0.1-1mdk

And to resolve the dependencies I had to install some others as well:

bonobo-1.0.18-2mdk
bonobo-conf-0.14-3mdk
gtkhtml-1.0.1-2mdk
libbonobo2-1.0.18-2mdk
libbonobo-conf0-0.14-3mdk
libgal19-0.19-2mdk
libglade-bonobo0-0.17-2mdk
libgtkhtml20-1.0.1-2mdk
liboaf0-0.6.8-1mdk
oaf-0.6.8-1mdk

If I run Evolution as root, everything is fine. As a normal user, the 
summary page and the mail folders are not displayed (calendar and 
contacts work however). I deleted ~/evolution and all gnome related 
configs from my home dir, copied the setup from root, chowned it and 
tried again but still the same result: root ok, normal user not.

If I start evolution from a shell, I see this:

failed.

evolution-shell-WARNING **: CORBA exception 
IDL:GNOME/Evolution/Shell/InternalError:1.0 when requesting URI -- 
evolution:/summary

Some more info:

- /root is local, /home is an NFS share on a server with lockd
- desktop environnment is KDE
- I'm accessing mail trough IMAP
