I have been getting this error for months, and I simply cannot figure it
out. I've read all the archives and tried everything suggested. I've
read the threads on the appropriate bug entries. Nothing has helped.

Basically, every time I want to use Evolution I have to run oaf-slay
beforehand, else I get the dreaded "configuration database not found"
error. This really is quite a showstopper. I _want_ to use Evolution.
I really do... but this bug just won't go away, no matter how often I
update evolution, gconf, oafd, bonobo, etc. The worst part of it all is
that I'm trying to get my wife to use our Linux box, but she can't even
check her email without running oaf-slay. She asks "why can't it just
work?". How pathetic!

Is anyone else _still_ experiencing this? Is all hope lost?

Yes, I'm experiencing this too.
While doing some experiments I saw that when the X session ends there is
an oafd process left running (I don't know if it should be killed at the
end of the X session or not).
If i kill the oafd before logging in again evolution starts normally,
otherwise it aborts with 'Configuration database not found'

My system is a redhat 7.1, with all the latest redcarpet updates.

I get it also, but it doesn't stop Evolution from running. I just click
"OK" to close the error window, and Evolution loads fine. I haven't
tried running oafslay or killev to see if it will make the message not
recur.

I'm running Mandrake Cooker, originally from Dec. 24, 2001, but with
some updates. Evolution version 1.0.1 (1mdk).
