not really. i also prefer the exit command, but if you have to get rid
of all evolution threads and/or evolution hangs for some reason then
it's the best way to kill/exit all evolution threads.


the only thing that i can imagine is that you are using imap and your
server is too slow.

then sorry. i don't know what's going on. as you know you can also debug
the evolution mailer component and see where it hangs. just start
evolution-mail in gdb and run evolution like usual.
