Re: [Evolution] Minor Annoyances

I don't know anything about #1. Well, maybe I do... I do seem to recall
some imported Eudora messages were all screwed up. But I think Eudora
was using some sort of non-standard tag... maybe it was x-html? One
thing that happens when importing Eudora mailboxes is that all the
attachments are lost (since Eudora strips them from the mbox file), and
opening those messages gives an error message for the missing
attachment. Nothing serious.

I can't imagine #2 becoming a priority any time soon. As a former
Eudora user I did appreciate being able to edit messages (get rid of
lots of quoted text for msgs I wanted to save, etc.).

Be careful, editing your mbox is probably not a good idea and you may
screw up Evolution if you do so without deleting Evolution's indexes
(.ibex files, I think?). Also, if you do edit them, be sure to close
Evolution first.

Again, as a former Eudora user I very much missed these extended
message-deletion settings for POP servers (your item #3).
It's also covered by one of the longest-lasting and most duplicated
wishlist bugs for Evolution:

http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1824

The standard Ximian response to this issue seems to be there's something
wrong with you--that this sort of functionality doesn't belong on a POP
client, and that you really should be using an IMAP server instead. Of
course, if you don't run your own server (and it looks like you don't),
you're probably out of luck there.

Personally, I don't care any more; I converted my server to IMAP. But I
feel your pain =)

And by the way, do you have any old Eudora mailboxes into which you had
filtered SENT messages?

If so, when you import them into Evolution you will probably find that
all those messages have a screwed-up date/time setting in the message
index. I have written a perl script that will fix these mailboxes; let
me know if you're interested in it.

I also have a script that can help transfer a system over to IMAP :)

cheers

I'm using Evolution 1.2.0 (previous Eudora user) and I'm having problems with:

1. <x-html> headers won't render properly.
2. I would like to be able to edit an individual message without editing
the mbox file.
3. Since use multiple mail clients on different machines I have Evolution
leave the messages on the server. I would like to be able to tag a
particular message for deletion at the next mail check.

I have searched the archives for these and haven't found any references. If
there is a way to do them now, please let me know. If you know of a "bug"
or "feature request" that satisfies these, please let me know as well.

Cheers.
