Hi,

I have a visor which was syncing nicely with 1.08. It won't sync with
1.2. I've run gpilotd from the command line (in the past that helped me
get it set up properly) and here's what I see:

        [jimg zanzibar jimg]$ gpilotd
        gpilotd-Message: gnome-pilot 0.1.69 starting...
        gpilotd-Message: compiled for pilot-link version 0.11.5
gpilotd-Message: compiled with [VFS] [GOAD] [USB] [IrDA]
        [Network]
        gpilotd-Message: Activating CORBA server
        gpilotd-Message: Watching Cradle (/dev/pilot)
        gpilotd-Message: setting PILOTRATE=9600
        HOME environment variable not set?

        Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
        [jimg zanzibar jimg]$

I have a stock Red Hat 7.3 system running on a Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop
(P III) with Ximian Gnome.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

James

PS. I read on the list that slowing things down to 9600 would fix this
but for me that produced no visible change.

USB or serial? There was an earlier thread with a similar error using a
USB connection, and the resolution was to configure gnome-pilot to use a
"serial" connection.

USB. You say 'serial' in quotes; is there a trick so that I can still
use the USB? Right now I have /dev/pilot linked to /dev/ttyUSB1.

Well, I tried setting the connection to 'serial' and, running gpilotd at
the command line, got the following:

        [jimg zanzibar jimg]$ gpilotd
        gpilotd-Message: gnome-pilot 0.1.69 starting...
        gpilotd-Message: compiled for pilot-link version 0.11.5
gpilotd-Message: compiled with [VFS] [GOAD] [USB] [IrDA]
        [Network]

gpilotd-WARNING **: Could not open device Cradle (/dev/pilot):
        reason: "No such device".
        gpilotd-Message: Activating CORBA server

Hmmm... (sync didn't work).

James

As I understood it, you have to configure it in the capplet as "serial",
even though it's USB attached to /dev/ttyUSB1. I haven't tried this
myself, though. I think I'll go find a USB cradle for my Visor...

gnome-pilot 0.1.70 may be worth a try. We released new packages this
morning.
