Brett,
But how would this interact with vFolders and folders which have
sources covering multiple email accounts? For example, I use a vfolder
called New Mail which is a list of all the new mail I've received from
all the email accounts I have. It would be very annoying if I had to
lock that down to a certain sendmail.

IMO, the "Identity" and "Associated Mailing List" properties should
simply be optional. If they exist for a particular folder, then they
are used when composing a reply. If they don't exist, simply fall back
to the default behavior of looking at the To: and From: headers. Am I
missing something, or does this address your concern?

I believe it's the most natural, straightforward solution.

Yes, and might I suggest a look at KMail for an example of an excellent
implementation of this? In KMail, each folder has a "Properties" dialog
associated with it (accessible from the right-click popup menu). The
properties include the associated "Identity", and also (and this is
*really* cool) includes an "Associated Mailing List". If the folder is
marked as holding a mailing list, KMail will automatically select the
correct "To:" and "From:" headers when replying to any message in the
folder.

Also, FWIW, Sylpheed has similar functionality, but it isn't implemented
quite as intuitively as it is in KMail (IMO of course...).

Cheers!
