[Evolution] error on CVS build control-center-plus

I'm playing with some CVS gnome stuffs, and I am consistiently getting a
funny error on autogen/configure (looks like a 'sed' error), so I have some
questions, since I'm relatively new to building CVS source.

First, what I have been doing is:
1) update the cvs with 'cvs co -P name-of-tree'
2) run 'autogen.sh' in the directory
3) take the resulting .spec file,
   clean up the dir
   make a tarball
   put it in /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
   'rpm -ba program.spec'

   or

3) running 'configure', then (hopefully) 'make' in the program dir.

Very often, these autogen's die in the 'configure' stage with this sort of
error (this one happens to be from control-center-plus):

creating ./config.status
creating Makefile
sed: file cs4451.s1 line 51: Unterminated s' command
sed: file cs4451.s2 line 3: Unknown command: `(''
sed: file cs4451.s3 line 51: Unterminated s' command
sed: file cs4451.s4 line 3: Extra characters after command
creating po/Makefile.in
sed: file cs4451.s1 line 51: Unterminated s' command
sed: file cs4451.s3 line 51: Unterminated s' command
sed: file cs4451.s2 line 3: Unknown command: `(''
sed: file cs4451.s4 line 3: Extra characters after command
creating capplets/Makefile
sed: file cs4451.s2 line 3: Unknown command: `(''

... and so on

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this sort of error?
I don't know enough about sed to debug this guy.

LinuxPPC, glibc-2.2, kernel 2.4.10, full complement of gnome stuffs
going.

Cheers,

Mike
