[Evolution] Antialiased fonts

I have just installed gdkxft 1.0 on my system (for GTK+ font
antialiasing). Everything was fine and dandy, except that now my
messages in Evolution are displayed in a really ugly manner. Some
messages that appear to use helvetica have lots of invalid characters in
them (perhaps a unicode issue?) and regular courier messages like this
look tiny and unusually spaced out. This is happening only in Evolution.
Does someone have a clue about this?
