[Evolution] Cannot initialize the ... Shell: Help, I've tried everything.

I made a bonehead mistake (to make a long story short):

% rm -f /usr/share/oaf/*.oaf

Now whenever I try to start Evolution I get the dreaded:

Cannot initialize the Ximian Evolution shell:  Configuration Database not found

On the command line I see:

evolution-shell-WARNING **: Cannot access Bonobo/ConfigDatabase on
wombat: (IDL:OAF/GeneralError:1.0)

So, I uninstalled Evolution and all of Ximian Gnome from my Debian Potato
system and reinstalled.  Still no luck.  Is there some kind of
configuration script I need to run now?

Possible Cause #1:  Checking the Path

% env | grep PATH
PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games

% which oafd evolution evolution-mail evolution-calendar 
/usr/bin/oafd
/usr/bin/evolution
/usr/bin/evolution-mail
/usr/bin/evolution-calendar

[After unsuccessfully running evolution:]
% ps aux | grep oaf

Possible Cause #2:  Broken Bonobo

% strings `which oafd` | grep /oaf$
