When you highlight a set of rows / columns in Excel, copy to clipboard (as Excel data), and paste it into an Outlook compose window, the entire spreadsheet and information about the view (of the cells you pasted) is embedded into the message. Exactly how this works may depend on what flavor of the mail composer you are using.
A better (cross-platform compatible) way to handle this is to (1) Attach the spreadsheet as a file or (2) Click Edit -> Paste Special in Outlook compose and paste it as (un)formatted text.

Subject: [Evolution] odd behavior with MS OLE_Obj
every so often a collegue of mine sends me an e-mail where he's cutting
an pasting data from a spreadsheet app (he's a Windows guy so he's using
Excel 2000). sometimes this comes in looking fine (in Evolution) and
sometimes it comes in with just this:
<<...OLE_Obj...>>
<<...OLE_Obj...>>
he's sending the mail in plain text (so it's not an html issue). He
swears he's not doing anything different with each mail so i'm wondering
if it is an inconsistancy with evolution handling pasted text.
any insight would be much appreciated.
thank you.
