You running on NFS? That may be the problem, or I hear some versions of
debian? Whatever the problem may be, you might try rebuilding Evolution
without any locking built in. Unfortunately this'd require you to build
Evolution from source, but it's the only way I know of.

remember what it was.

I've used killev and oaf-slay, they don't seem to help.
