Re: [Evolution] IMAP configuration with ~/mail

Ok, I will give you a whole bunch of information, let me know if you need
anything else.

I completely removed the evolution directory first. Here is a listing of my
~/mail directory to give you an idea of how I am set up. Obviously I save way
too much mail.

mcorner fake
: /n/bogus/k/mcorner ; ls -R mail
mail:
DELETED old sent-mail temp.txt
OUTBOX saved-messages sent-mail-dec-2000 usb
bluetooth saved-messages-dec-2000 sent-mail-nov-2000
etree saved-messages-nov-2000 systems

mail/etree:
announce digest requests siteops

mail/old:
crap saved-messages-nov-1998 sent-mail-jul-1999
saved-messages-april-1999 saved-messages-oct-1998 sent-mail-july-2000
saved-messages-aug-1999 saved-messages-oct-2000 sent-mail-mar-1999
saved-messages-dec-1999 sent-mail-apr-2000 sent-mail-mar-2000
saved-messages-feb-1999 sent-mail-aug-1999 sent-mail-may-1999
saved-messages-jan-1999 sent-mail-aug-2000 sent-mail-may-2000
saved-messages-jan-2000 sent-mail-dec-1999 sent-mail-nov-1998
saved-messages-jul-1999 sent-mail-feb-1999 sent-mail-oct-2000
saved-messages-july-2000 sent-mail-feb-2000 sent-mail-sep-2000
saved-messages-mar-2000 sent-mail-jan-1999
saved-messages-may-2000 sent-mail-jan-2000

I did this:
export CAMEL_VERBOSE_DEBUG=1

I augmented the debug log to give you an idea of where I did what.
bogus.eecs.umich.edu is the name of the imap server and the nfs server.

2) Configure IMAP server with bogus.eecs.umich.edu, username mcorner, path=mail.
It then prompts me for the password and I type it in.

4) Then I click on my various folders. Some work as expected. Some
give me an error message about the IMAP server response not
containing LIST information. The ones that seem to give me that
message were not folders in ~/mail when evolution started. It
seems to create new ones in ~/mail if I click on those folders. So
for instance, sent-mail-dec-1999 had an assertion failure during
the sort and it appears under the root node in the view. (It should
be appearing under the old/ node.) If I click on it something
creates sent-mail-dec-1999 in ~/mail. So now I have two. One in
~/mail and one in ~/mail/old (the correct one).

In other words these assertion failures are fubaring the whole
thing. So I believe the real question is, why do those occur?

The reason it's trying to CREATE the folder is probably because it's not
finding it on the IMAP server. I don't know why this would be the case.
Could you export CAMEL_VERBOSE_DEBUG=1 in your shell and re-run
Evolution and do the same thing and send us the debug printfs?

Jeff

(It's either CAMEL_VERBOSE_DEBUG or CAMEL_DEBUG_VERBOSE - I can never
remember)

Ok, so why is it trying to do that? I assume that evolution is telling
the IMAP server to create these since it doesn't do this with pine.

Evolution isn't creating the folders in ~/mail/, that's your IMAP server
trying to do that.

I searched through the archives for an answer, but couldn't find one.

I am using IMAP with Evolution 0.8 I have set up my mail preferences for
a single imap server.

~/mail/ contains all my mail folders. My IMAP server and my local machine
(both Linux) both use NFS to mount my home directory. Therefore both my
local machine and the IMAP server can see ~/mail and all the folders.
Only the IMAP server can see my inbox.

If I try to access one of these mail folders it says:

Error while 'Loading "imap://mcorner mailserver edu/mail/oldmail"':
IMAP command failed: CREATE failed: Can't create mailbox node
/home/mcorner/mail/oldmail: File exists

It looks like Evolution is creating local mail files in ~/mail/ on my
local machine and is running into the mail that is already there. This
has always worked fine on pine by specifying something like:

inbox-path={mailserver.edu}inbox
folder-collections="Mail on mailserver" {mailserver.edu}mail/[]

Has anyone run into this, or is this too strange of a configuration? Also,
I thought evolution stored the local copies in ~/evolution ?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
