simplest solution i came up with was to set fetchmail up to dump mail
into a local mbox spool, say /var/mail/username, and then set evolution
up to read from that spool.  tell fetchmail to run every 10 minutes as a
cronjob under the proper username, and set evolution to do the same if
you so desire for pseudo-transparent kerberized mail without kerberos
compiled into evolution.
