just to provide an answer to this in the list archives, i'll post how i
fixed this today. i was using xfs and XFree86 4.0.2. i had FontPath
lines in my XF86Config file that were also in the fontpath xfs was
using. i removed all FontPath lines from XF86Config except unix/:7100,
and the emails that used to crash X no longer do.
