[Evolution] Evolution and Japanese

Hi,

I was talking to Larry on irc about this about 2 weeks ago, but didn't
get a chance to try it until now. Basically, I'm trying to view Japanese
emails with evolution.

I've got Ximian Gnome 1.4 running on a RH7.1 box. I've started Gnome up
using the locale ja_JP.ujis. When I start evolution most of the menus are
now in Japanese also. I still cannot however view Japanese emails. Some
of the characters display but most appear as tall rectangular outlines.

I've tried setting a few different fonts in gtkhtml for fixed and variable
with the same result. Currently the .gnome/gtkhtml looks like this...

I also tried setting the locale to ja_JP.euc but when I start evolution 
I get a message unsupported locale.

Any ideas? What else can I check?
