This sounds very like roaming profiles (either via LDAP or HTTP).
I also feel this would be a nice feature especialy in the
office/homeworking environmet.

OK, I have the coolest idea ever. At least I think so. This is
definitely a post 1.0 feature, but it would be really cool. I think it
would be great if Evolution could store your settings on an IMAP server
in a special folder. Then in your preferences, you could specify get
settings from IMAP server. That way, no matter what box you ran Evo on,
you would always have consistent settings, vfolders, filters, etc.I
think this would be sweet.
I don't know how Evo currently stores your prefs, etc. But I believe
it's in an XML file. So I envision some special folder on your IMAP
server called __evo_settings__ or something similar. Perhaps you could
even allow the user to specify the name to avoid collisions. Then inside
that folder you would have regular old mail messages with special
subjects like vfolders.xml, filters.xml, prefs.xml, etc. Evo would grab
them, process as normal, and go on its happy and consistent way.
The reason that I think this would be cool, is that I often use
evolution to access my IMAP email from work or from home. I imagine
other people do the same thing. Well, this is all fine and good, but I
like to have the same vfolders, view settings, filters, etc. on each
box. So whenever I change something on my evolution at work, I have to
change the same thing at home. This little feature would alleviate that.
What do you think?
