iCalendar is a revision of vCalendar- essentially, it's vCalendar 
2.0, just renamed (and transferred to a different standard-setting 
committee).  Since vCalendar is gnomecal's native format, you can be 
sure that Evolution will support both formats, at least at the level 
of import/export.
