Not sure if this is the right part of the thread... but here it is

There should be an option (like outlook) that says "if a message if
previewed in the pane for x seconds, mark as read"
this option should be able to be turned on and off, and a variable delay

i rarely open a message (always use the preview pane) and I use arrows up
and down to mark as read.  any extra steps are an inconveinience.  i also
have the preview dely before marking as read set to 0 seconds.
if you don't want them marked as read while scrolling around with the
arrows, change the delay higher, but it needs to be an option.
