Ah, but you are not cursed with having a project at a company which has
quite fascist restrictions. There is a firewall here which only allows proxy
servers access to the internet on ports 80 and 21. So I can't even connect
to anything (except web and ftp) outside of the fw anyway. And outside of
hacking the firewall, something my boss probably wouldn't be too keen on, I
need to be able to work with the local Exchange server. Oh well, maybe the
exchange server will break and they'll move to qmail...

I recognize that Evolution does not yet support MS Exchange server
functions
like calendar, task lists, and contacts. However, I have a more basic
problem. I'm running Evolution PR8 on RedHat 6.2. I'm connected to an
Exchange server (not my fault, contracting to another company) via IMAP.
While I get all of my mails, I cannot send anything. The exchange server
has
the SMTP port closed (I used nmap), so it will not receive attempted
connections from my Evolution. However if I work via Outlook (on a Windows
box) Outlook can connect to the Exchange server via some proprietary
protocols. I figured this out with a sniffer. Outlook sends a request to
the
Exchange server on port 12xx. Exchange responds, and then opens up a port
temporarily which allows Outlook to send messages. My question is this, is
their any way to replicate this Outlook query so that my Evolution can do
the same thing? Or has anybody had the same problem and found a fix. And
FYI, it is not just evolution. All mail clients except for Outlook are
blocked because of the closed SMTP port. Thanks in advance :-)
You probably thought of this, but a temp solutions is to get a personal SMPT
server somewhere on the net and use that. If I have the same problem, won't
know until next week, then I'll use the free one at yahoo.
Nice investigory work
Tom
