Should it be possible? And if it is, shouldn't it

Yes, and it does. Right-click on the attachment icon to get a menu.
(Not obvious, yes. Being fixed later.)
Yes, I have tried it. But the "external viewer"-stuff is always
greyed out. Maybe this is a problem with imap-folders? I
haven't tried with mbox mails. I use only imap.
Well, you can save to disk and then open it with whatever you want.
Yes, that's what I do now, but that's a clumsy method and it always
leaves those stupid attachments in my home dir... ;-)
I don't know if anybody of you developers are familiar with
xfmail (or archimedes, the "gtk+-version" of xfmail, but it
is still very preprealpha, and totaly unusable), but there
are some very handy features and options which I have
learned to like and use and I would of course like to have
them also in evoulution. But before that a prefer stableness.
Hmm. One thing. When will size showing be possible with
imap-folders? On a slow link it is a necessary feature as
you wouldn't like to click on the message only to find out
(after 10 minutes) that it has a 5 MB mpeg filed attached...
(The worst thing is, that at least with my configuration the
whole mailview crashes...)
If we were going to have an "Open As" possibility, we'd need some sort
of application picker dialog...
Yes, but you could use it the same way xfmail does. It just
uses the mime definitions. Of course you have to "kludge"
a little bit. Adding something like applications/msword-2
linked to another application etc. Hmm, it's not very elegant,
but it works!
