I think you are wrong here. You said that the menu binding override
the application keys. First this would be a terrible wrong behaviour.
The application specific keys should have priority, but, as I type this
in gmail, and am then using firefox, which is also implemented with
gtk as far as I know, there the menu keys are overridden. E.g the
menu says, "Select all Ctrl+A" but ^A works, it goes to the beginning
of line, as Ctrl+P to previous line etc. Otherwise I would have had a
lot of problems with gmail, as well.
What would be the correct and obvious behaviour is that the
application prints on the menu keys the current active
keybinding for that function. Any other behaviour is flawed
from my point of view.
