Hmm, sorry i confess that I forgot what the bounty page had said.

It isn't necessary that it is all thrown out.  About all that would need
changing is how notification etc is handled, i.e. the glue in the
middle.  Most of the rest of the code would stay the same.

Given that we're in a feature freeze anyway, so the patch can't be
applied for a while, it gives time for these changes to be made, or
maybe it can just stay as is anyway, it was just a discussion point.
