[Evolution-hackers] Accessing Evolution's data

I'm stuck in a mental groove, and cannot find the right googling for the following question:

How do I get to the data in Evolution?

I'm lost between OAF, ORBit and Bonobo (and wombat). I would like to be able to scan through email folders, and create todo items based on content criteria (ie. "please test beer taps and wireless lan at Joe's pub"). 

Ideally I'd like to use java as my language of choice, but could fall back on python, or perl (I realize C is probably the language of choice). I've seen mention of monkeybeans(2) for java, but the site seems to be down, and I can't find anything more useful on it.
