I mentioned this already months ago...


What about a *drop-down* list with icons?  Similar to the "New" button
in 1.4.x versions, just without the drop-down being a separate button.
We can have any number of components then -- it won't need to be taller
in either direction.

Having the drop-down at the top would even be more appropriate IMHO.
That way it would allocate the same space as the search bar in the
components pane. And the folder tree would start at the very same
vertical position as the mail tree.

Of course, accelerators to switch between components in addition to the
pull-down would really be nice.
