@Carlos, I am sorry for the fuzz, it turns out that I was compiling
evince git against to poppler 0.12 instead of git. I corrected that
and now  the example given by Pablo works.

@Pablo, sorry I made you file the bug! the correct answer to your
original question is: Your example works with  latest version of
evince with the latest version of poppler.
